We love any picture book at Our Lady Queen Of Peace but I think our favourite is The Day The Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. Not sure I’ve ever read it to a reception class but when I moved to KS2 in September 2020 even Year 6 checked I had brought it with me 😂 and I have read it many times since then, despite lockdowns and periods of bubble isolating. (We are also big fans of Oi Frog and have recently been enjoying The Angry Cookie).

My Primary 2 class love The Runaway Pea by Kjartan Poskitt. A fun adventure story!

We love picture books right across the school, but a recent fave has been Tom Percival’s The Invisible, highlighting the financial background that many of our pupils come from. It’s really important to see all children and situations reflected in books, and this prompted great discussion about need Vs want and strengthening communities from reception to year 6. Beautifully done!

My y4 class started the year with Lights On Cotton Rock, and totally loved it. The beauty of both the drawings and the message, along with the tender way it explores waiting and family love really hit them and inspired them. It didn’t stay on the shelf long and was almost constantly out (minus quarantine periods in between!)

We are currently learning about dragons and the children are loving Zog by Julia Donaldson.
