firstly, there is a chance you have never heard of these authors, good news is that I have read all three books and it is part of my job to bring books to children that are by authors not well known. Jut because someone is famous is no guarantee that the book will be good.
The Girl Who Could Not Lie, by Radhika Sanghani. For Teens and YA readers.
This is a really great tale about a girl who finds herself unable to lie, at all! Priya Shah is going through so much, she has lost her beloved Ba (Grandmother), her family are experiencing financial troubles and she has pretty much decided that she has to be perfect at everything. Her entire life is about to implode when she finds herself suddenly saying everything to everyone, could the magic bangle be to blame? What happens over the course of the book is both highly embarrassing but incredibly heartwarming. The message is a very good one too. The main themes are life as a 12 year old girl, the cultural and familial expectations of an Indian heritage and friendship. This would be a good book for people aged 11+.
Mission Micropraptor by Philip Kavvadias
Finn and Milo are on a school trip to the Alps when disaster strikes, but during the disaster Finn finds a microraptor egg which hatches (hello Arty). It is not long before events start to go scarily wrong and they go on the run from trained mercenaries. The mercenaries are on an evil mission to take the dinosaur for themselves and will go to any length to get the microraptor. Thankfully the children are both incredibly resourceful and have a little help along the way. They are determined to keep the little dinosaur safe at all costs. Things keep going wrong, every step they seem to be found, what can be the cause? To find out you will have to read the book! The book is perfect for middle grade readers and above and is an amazing page turner, I loved this book and look forward to the next book in the trilogy.
Bringing Back Kay-Kay Dev Kothari
Kay-Kay has gone missing, his family are bereft but the police seem to be as much use as a chocolate teapot. Our narrator is his little sister El-Kay (Lena) who is battling with her own emotions, her parents low expectations of her and her own feelings around the disappearance. After spending some time waiting for anything to happen El-Kay starts to investigate buts seems to find herself in so many dead ends. When this is not enough she takes action and goes on a quest to find out what happened. Will she find her brother? It was such an incredible story, which will make you cry, rage and feel so many other emotions. I totally recommend this book. For readers age 8+
