Bookish memories

In 2005 something unfortunate happened, I was on my way home from posting a job application when I came of my motorcycle. Unfortunately this resulted in a stay at hospital. Don't worry though, this is not a story of doom and gloom, it is actually a story about how I came to know the stories of Philip Pullman.

My poor old battered self was lying in my bed, feeling very sorry for myself when one day I happened to mention that I found it difficult to read due the medication.

What arrived as a result of this was a recorded version of His Dark Materials trilogy. You can imagine the joy of listening to this epic series, the Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. I cannot believe that it took 10 years to discover.

This isn't the end of the story. Sometime in early 2017 and a new book came out, the Book of Dust. I had just started collecting books and was quite amazed to find out that Philip Pullman was visiting the Wirral (Linghams book shop). I happened to write a letter to Philip Pullman about my hospital visit, I passed this letter to him when passing my book over to be signed. To my incredible joy I received a reply in the post.

You may guess from this blog that I am rather a massive Pullman fan and cannot wait to hear about the third title in the Book of Dust Series.

Do you have any bookish memories?
